The suede clog, the faux leather clog and the fuzzy platform clog slipper are labeled for women and men at once. The number after W is the women's US size, the number after M is the men's. On most labels the men's number is one to two sizes lower.

The platform mini boot slipper uses women's US sizes only. The kids' clog slipper uses Little Kid sizes, which end at 3, and Big Kid sizes from there up.

Measure in the evening

Feet swell as the day goes on, so measure in the evening. Stand on a sheet of paper with your weight on the foot, mark the back of the heel and the tip of the longest toe, and measure between the marks. Do both feet and go by the larger.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons suggests about half an inch between the longest toe and the tip of the shoe, and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society says not to count on a shoe stretching to fit.

When to size up

• Your foot is wide across the ball: take one size up in the suede clog and tighten the buckle strap.
• You wear a half size and the style is cut in whole sizes only: go up to the next whole size.
• You wear thick wool socks in a fleece-lined slipper: take the larger of two sizes.
• Your heel hangs over the back of the cork bed when you stand: the pair is too short, whatever the label says.

Sizing a child

Measure a child standing, in the evening, the same way. The American Podiatric Medical Association suggests leaving 10 to 15 millimeters in front of the longest toe and checking the size every four to six months. AOFAS notes that young children may need new shoes every three to four months.
